Frequently Asked Questions

Long Term Visit Pass (LTVP) Singapore

Can I Leave Singapore While My LTVP Application Is Processing?

Yes, you can return to your home country while the Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) application is under review. However, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) may request your or your sponsor’s presence for interviews or additional document submissions. Ensure you’re contactable and prepared to return if necessary.

My LTVP Is Expiring and Renewal Is Still Pending — Can I Stay in Singapore?

If your LTVP renewal is being processed and your current pass is nearing expiry, ICA will usually convert your LTVP into a Short-Term Visit Pass (STVP) automatically. You’ll be notified via email, allowing you to remain in Singapore legally during the review period.

How Long Does It Take to Process a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) in Singapore?

Generally, LTVP applications are processed within 6 weeks, provided all documents are in order. For spouses of Singapore Citizens who did not submit a Pre-Marriage Long-Term Visit Pass Assessment (PMLA), processing may take up to 6 months. Submitting a PMLA before the LTVP application can significantly speed up approval to just 6 weeks.

Can I Cancel My Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)?

Yes. Both the LTVP holder and sponsor must mutually agree to the cancellation and be present at the ICA Building to process it. Upon cancellation, ICA typically issues a Short-Term Visit Pass for the LTVP holder to make exit arrangements.

Can I Reapply for an LTVP After Rejection?

Yes. If your circumstances have changed (e.g., new employment, marital status, or family ties), you may submit a fresh LTVP application. Include supporting documents that address the initial rejection reasons for a better chance of approval.

What’s the Difference Between a Dependant’s Pass (DP) and an LTVP?

A Dependant’s Pass (DP) is issued by the Ministry of Manpower to dependants of Employment Pass, S Pass, or PEP holders. In contrast, the LTVP is issued by ICA to family members of Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents. Both allow long-term stay, but the eligibility and issuing authorities differ.

What Are the Advantages of Holding an LTVP+?

The LTVP+ offers:

- Longer validity: 3 years initially, renewable for up to 5 years

- Employment privileges with LOC (Letter of Consent)

- Healthcare subsidies at public hospitals

- SkillsFuture support for Continuing Education & Training (CET) programs

It’s designed for foreign spouses of Singaporeans to support stronger family integration.

Can I Apply for an LTVP Before the Main Pass (Employment or S Pass) Is Approved?

Technically yes, but it’s advisable to wait for the main pass to be approved first. If the primary Employment or S Pass application is rejected, your LTVP will also be rejected. ICA does not refund the application fee.

Can I Apply for a Dependant’s Pass Before the Main Employment Pass Is Approved?

Yes, but similar to the LTVP, the Dependant’s Pass (DP) will be rejected if the Employment, S Pass, or PEP is not approved. Submitting the DP after the main pass approval improves your success rate and avoids unnecessary cost.

Can a Child on a Dependant’s Pass or LTVP Study in Singapore Without a Student Pass?

Yes. If the child has been accepted into a full-time program at an approved educational institution, and holds a valid Dependant’s Pass or LTVP, they do not need to apply for a separate Student’s Pass.
